POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY
- Lead and manage the tax function within the Finance Centre of Excellence (COE), encompassing both direct and indirect taxation. The role focuses on an intermediate strategic advisor and operational leader within the Finance Centre of Excellence (COE). This role actively designs, models, and implements tax strategies across a diversified portfolio. The incumbent translates complex global and domestic tax evolutions into actionable operational strategies, balances cross-border risk, and serves as a consultative partner to business unit leaders to drive long-term tax efficiency
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTION
- Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Oversee accurate and timely filing of all tax returns (corporate income tax, SST, withholding tax, and other relevant taxes).
- Review tax computations, deferred tax, and tax provisions for financial reporting and audit purposes.
- Ensure Group-wide compliance with statutory tax requirements, including Global Minimum Tax (GMT), Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR), and internal tax policies.
- Manage tax audits, investigations, and correspondences with tax authorities.
- Tax Advisory and Planning
- Analyze new tax legislation, public rulings, and judicial precedents; assess business impacts and develop practical implementation strategies and guidance for stakeholders.
- Provide strategic tax advice on business transactions, projects, investments, and restructuring activities.
- Evaluate and implement tax incentives, exemptions, and deductions to optimize the Group's tax position.
- Transfer Pricing and Cross-Border Matters
- Oversee the preparation of transfer pricing documentation in compliance with Malaysian and OECD guidelines.
- Formulate and manage Group transfer pricing policies, cost-sharing arrangements, and intercompany transactions, including cross-border asset usage and technical management fees, ensuring alignment with Group policy.
- Support cross-border tax matters, including treaty applications and international tax implications.
- Governance, Policy, and Risk Management
- Develop and strengthen Group tax governance through effective tax policies, contract reviews, internal controls, and continuous improvement of tax reporting processes.
- Maintain up-to-date tax risk registers and support internal audit reviews of tax compliance.
- Ensure proper documentation and evidence retention for tax positions and statutory filings.
- Spearhead tax automation initiatives and technology integration (e.g., SAP/ERP) to improve reporting accuracy, reduce manual risks, and enhance audit readiness.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Operations, and other business functions to align tax strategies with business objectives.
- Liaise with external consultants, auditors, and tax authorities on complex tax matters and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate tax implications clearly to non-tax stakeholders to support informed business decision-making.
- Leadership and Capability Building
- Lead, manage, and mentor the Group Tax team to achieve departmental objectives and professional excellence.
- Build tax awareness and technical knowledge across Finance and business teams through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
Key Challenges
- Keeping abreast of frequent changes in tax legislation and interpreting their business impact.
- Managing complex tax exposures arising from multi-entity, cross-border, and project-based operations.
- Driving automation and efficiency in tax reporting while maintaining compliance accuracy.
- Building strong tax awareness across non-finance functions.
- Data Literacy & ERP Fluency: Competence in utilizing SAP/ERP data extraction tools to build automated tax reports, reducing reliance on manual calculations.
Skills
- Strong technical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes, including Income Tax Act, SST, and Transfer Pricing Guidelines.
- Proficiency in tax accounting, deferred tax, and financial reporting standards.
- Good understanding of ERP (SAP).
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.

External
- Degree in Accounting/Finance
- Master degree would be an added advantage
Relevant Industries
External
- Degree with minimum 7-10 years relevant experience.
Unique Requirement
- Professional Qualification (ICAA, ICAEW, CPA, ACCA, CIMA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

Experience in both direct and indirect tax, with exposure to transfer pricing and tax audit management.

Big 4 or large corporate tax experience an advantage.

In-depth knowledge of Income Tax Act, SST legislation, OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines, and upcoming digital/global frameworks (e-Invoicing, Pillar Two GMT).

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
